Spinach For Breakfast

spinach for breakfastEvery now and then I come across a book that makes me smile. This one has a full title that is almost as long as the slim 46 page book: Spinach for Breakfast:  How to live longer for all ages, particularly for 65 and older . It is written by Sam Almond. whose earlier books have been about trading financial instruments like Contracts for Difference (CFD) and Options.

Sam is 86 years young. He diets and exercises his way to fitness and health and says he “enjoys life to the full.”

This simple book distills all the things he has learned about longevity, diet, exercise and basic living. It contains some practical tips for snacks, meals and provides a couple of simple recipes. While not adhering to a whole food plant-based diet he does promote a diet full of fruits and vegetables and very little meat. Even so, he is right on the money about regular meals, avoiding sugar, gentle exercise, good sleep  and reducing stress.

He states that his secret ingredient to a long and healthy life is love. Although he includes other important aspects of health like a sensible diet, staying mobile both physically and mentally and good luck puts anyone on track for long, happy and satisfying “golden years.”

The book is pretty basic and there is nothing particularly new or startling and yet I found it a quick and enjoyable read. My final analysis is that what the book lacks in heft it makes up for in charm and practical advice.  You can purchase it through Amazon.
